The 18^th Commemoration Ceremony of the former First Mayor of the Kotte Municipal Council, Attorney-at-Law Chandra Silva who revived the city of Kotte was held on 26.12.2021 in front of his statue at the Parakumba Sama Uyana, Rajagiriya.

Hon. Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Susil Premajayantha, Former Mayor of Kotte Hon. Colombo District Minister of Parliament Attorney-at-Law Madhura Vithanage, Mayor of Kotte Hon. Mr. I.M.V. Premalal, Hon. Municipal Councilors, Former Mayor Hon. Mrs. Chandra Silva, Former Municipal Councilor Mr. Danushka Silva, and Municipal Commissioner Mrs. Shalika S. Ranaweera with Municipal Council officials and staff joined this occasion.

The first urban fitness center in Sri Lanka was opened to the public on 13.12.2011. The center is located at Hatewatta, Obeysekarapura, Rajagiriya and is jointly established by the Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Municipal Council and the Ministry of Health.

Hon. Colombo District Minister of Parliament Madura Attorney-at-Law Vithanage, Hon. Mayor of Kotte Mr. I.M.V. Premalal, Hon. Municipal Councilor Mr. Prabhad Thushara, Municipal Commissioner Mrs. Shalika S. Ranaweera, Municipal Medical Officer of Health Mr. Manoj Rodrigo, Community Medicine Specialist, Office of the Director of Estates and Urban Health Mrs. Inoka Wickramasinghe were also present at the occasion.

The Center is established under the Government Program to Create a Healthy Generation. This institute implements a number of monitoring and advisory services, including counseling for early detection of non-communicable diseases, prevention of malnutrition and obesity among the urban population.

YL Nimalsiri, a Supervisor who has been dedicated to the betterment of the Kotte Municipal Council for nearly 40 years, recently retired. A ceremony was held on 10.12.2012 at the Municipal Council Auditorium in appreciation of his service.

Hon. Member of Parliament for Colombo District and former Mayor of Kotte Attorney-at-Law Madura Vithanage, Mayor of Kotte, Hon. Mr. I.M.V. Premalal, Hon. Deputy Mayor Mr. Premalal Athukorala and other Municipal Councilors, Municipal Commissioner Mrs. Shalika S. Ranaweera, Heads of Departments, Heads of Divisions and many staff members participated.

Mr. Nimalsiri, who rendered an invaluable service on behalf of the Kotte Municipal Council. We wish Mr. Nimalasiri a healthy retirement life.

Concurrent with the state policy statement “Vision of Prosperity”, a Batik Training Service Center established under the 160 Batik Training Centers Program launched under the concept of “Working country, an effective citizen and a happy living family” was inaugurated at the Rajagiriya, Obeysekarapura Esala Garden on 2021-11-09.

Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa unveiled the plaque through online platform and this institution was vested in the people.

A group including Hon. Minister of Batik Industries Dayasiri Jayasekara, Hon. Member of Parliament for Colombo District Attorney-at-Law Madura Vithanage, Hon. Mayor of Kotte I.M.V. Premalal, Hon. Municipal Councilor Prabhad Thushara and the Municipal Commissioner Mrs. Shalika S. Ranaweera joined the event.
